How to find the right coat on-line?

It is getting colder, and it’s time for a new coat. Yet Covid makes us go on-line, where buying a coat may feel harder.

Here are my three filter choices to fill your shopping basket with perfect coat options:

#1. Material

Wool and felt are beautiful and offer many color choices, but a wool coat may not be warm enough for those who get frost bites easily. Puffy coats or (faux) fur will keep you warm, and are a great choice even in snow, but don’t do so well in rain.

For wet weather consider functional synthetic materials, faux leather or waxed cotton. These materials are not very insulating, so choose your size wisely to fit a thick sweater underneath.

#2. Belt or no belt?

Seam lines and belts attract attention. Belt has a benefit of a snug fit, so nasty wind cannot crawl under your layers. And if your waist is your best feature (e.g. for hourglass figure), you definitely want a belt. For on-line success ensure you can position the belt freely, or measure the length from the shoulder to the belt so it is well-positioned.

#3. Length

Overall the length of the coat should be right for the outfit. And keep in mind- seams (like belts) attract attention, so ensure the seam of the coat is where you want to draw attention (that is probably not at the wides line of your hips). Jeans and pants are very forgiving for any length, but dresses and skirts can be a bit trickier. Coat of the same length as the skirt look very well put together. Also a significant difference (short skirt with a long coat /long skirt and a short coat) can look great. Avoid a look of layers within 5-15 cm of each other that can look a little messy.

Enjoy surfing through the choices, and make your orders! I am sure you fill find just the right option to feel warm and look great!
